Its almost the end of the month and you know what that means! Halloween! One of my favorite holidays! While I am way too old to go out trick-or-treating ,I can at least look forward to staying at home, passing out candy to all the little ghouls, goblins and SpongeBob SquarePants. Living outside of Boston, my neighborhood is filled with houses that actually have a front yard (a rarity in the city). As much as I love the holidays, I have to say that cheesy holiday displays never really did it for me.
My neighbor across the street, for instance, has a big inflatable pumpkin that she sets up in her front yard. It's basically a big, tacky beacon that lures the troublemakers onto our street to smash our pumpkins and chop the heads off our sunflowers. She does the same thing for Christmas (Santa), Thanksgiving (Turkey) and Easter (Easter Bunny). OK, I'm being a little dramatic here, but seriously, I'm glad that I don't own my own place otherwise I would also be fearful that these displays are driving down property values! There are other varieties of
holiday lights that are OK, as long as they are removed immediately after it's respective holiday is over. Better still, why not choose something cool and stylish that you can leave in your yard all
year round?

Why not invest in a more modern holiday lighting alternative with these scary lights from funky Brooklyn-based
Site Specific Design. They are bug-inspired indoor and outdoor light fixtures, ready to infest your neighborhood! Designed by the VP and Creative Director, Rui Docouto for his "Childhood Memories" collection, these bug lamps are just as much sculpture as they are functional lights. Made from Steel and Corian, these creepy crawlies would make an excellent addition in your front yard, back yard or dining room table. Oh...and they are classy enough that you can leave them out all year round! Lights out till next time. -
